In-form trotting filly Ya Rite Darl has added the Aldebaran Zeus Southern Trotting Oaks to her resume at Invercargill today, beating a good field of fillies in the process in the day’s feature.
After using her potent gate speed to good effect early, Ya Rite Darl was initially able to secure an uncontested lead. However, a midrace move by fellow Canterbury visitor Dash Dosh injected some pace into the race, before that runner was forced to breeze for the trip. Past the 400m, she looked to be travelling better than any and after establishing a winning margin, was able to ease down over the last 100m for driver Tim Williams, who was suitably impressed with the filly’s efforts.
“She was really nice and relaxed early and once she got around the first bend she got into a nice rhythm.”
“She enjoyed her work and made my job very easy.”
A weanling purchase for Diamond Racing, today’s win was the 6th from just 17 starts for the What The Hill filly. Regular driver John Dunn reflected on the progress of the filly this campaign.
“She has always had good manners and high speed, but is definitely a lot stronger horse this time in.”
With plenty of big race targets upcoming and over $150,000 in the bank, it looks a very exciting time ahead with this talented filly. She is a $4.50 4th favourite for next month’s New Zealand Trotting Oaks.
